Essentials |
This is a beautiful property but you should have a rental car if you stay here. It's really in the middle of nowhere. With 12 acres of landscaped grounds and surrounded by fields of sugar cane, Rawlins Plantation is furnished with antiques throughout, so you do feel you've actually taken a step back in time. Especially in the rooms with their 4-poster mahogany beds, wicker chairs and hardwood flooring. The 10 rooms are located in cottages that once served as old plantation out-buildings (not to be confused with out-houses). The old windmill tower has been turned into the honeymoon suite. Facilities include a spring-fed swimming pool, grass tennis court, croquet lawn and local artist Kate Spencer's studio. The tropical gardens contain mango, hibiscus, papaya, oleander, banana, passionfruit and more. The restaurant emphasizes
cuisine with a strong West Indian influence based on the creations of
owner/chef Claire Rawson. She specializes in serving dishes with freshly
gathered ingredients from the plantation gardens, neighboring farmers
and local fishermen. Rawlins Plantation
