This AAA 4-Diamond Award property earned its name from those who thought that the old warehouse would be a “lemon” instead of a successful resort. Owner Arthur Leaman retorted that if it was going to be a lemon, it had better be golden one, thus its distinctive name. To say that it has been a success is an understatement. It has been going strong for more than 4 decades. The Golden Lemon is one of the larger inns, offering 10 rooms in the stylish Great House. The 22 seaside villas contain 1- and 2-bedrooms and all have private plunge pools. All rooms, individually decorated in warm Caribbean colors, are furnished with antique mahogany or metal 4-poster beds and antique furnishings. Dining options here are greater than you might expect. The gourmet Continental and West Indian menu based on fresh local ingredients changes nightly. You can dine at the candlelit poolside garden, in the main dining room or on the terrace that stretches the length of the Great House and overlooks the palm-lined, black sand beach of Dieppe Bay. Rates begin at US$265 per room, per night, based on double occupancy. The all-inclusive packages sometimes offer the best deal, a real consideration since the inn is well away from Basseterre. Golden
