Camping, fishing and hiking are all possible.

Each of Puerto Rico's forest preserves is quite different. Pinones Forest is an expanse of lagoons and mangrove swamps just east of San Juan.

The Humacao Wildlife Reserve has many bird species.

Guanica Forest, west of the town of Ponce, is home to the largest number of bird species.

Guajataca Forest, between Arecibo and

Aquadilla, is situated in the outstanding karst country of hills, cliffs and caves.

Guajataca Forest has 25 miles of well-maintained hiking trails.

The Abajo Forest, south of Arecibo, has plantations of pine, teak and mahogany.

The reserves in the Cordilla Central have a jungly look.

Toro Negro Forest has the highest peaks and stunning views of both the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts.

Monte Guilarte Forest, the Maricao Fish Hatchery and Carite Forest are also part of the Cordillera Central.

Maricao Forest near Mayaguez hosts many bird species, particularly hawks, year-round.
