St. Kitts - Old Windmill Tower - copyright M. Timothy O'Keefe - Guide To Caribbean Vacations

Old windmill tower with a tree growing from the top. This, too, is located at the northern end of the island, held by the French until 1783 when the British gained complete control over St. Kitts by the Treaty of Versailles.

You won't see much remaining evidence of other one-time dominant crops such as indigo, ginger, tobacco and cotton. Sugar cane was so valuable that most of the acerage was turned over to its production.

At one point during your journey you'll probably have the chance to try a local delicacy: sugar cakes. Beware. Those things are addictive.
