It isn't scheduled to open until the fall of 2007, but the BVI is about to have its first major new resort in the last 20 years.

The Mainsail Development Group is planning a luxury resort and spa for 230-acre Scrub Island.

The $45 million Mainsail BVI resort development will include a boutique hotel, spa, marina, and residences and estates. (They're available for sasle now. Prices range from $700,000 to $3.1 million.)

Once completed, the property will feature a collection of 90 units, including 2-bedroom marina suites, stand-alone ocean view villas, spa bungalows, private homes and estates.

Accommodating vessels up to 75 feet in length, the marina--advertised as the largest to be built in the BVI in more than two decades--will house 20 fishing charter slips, and another 80 for owners and guests to rent daily or monthly.  The marina is 20 minutes away from the North Drop, a noted blue marlin fishing spot.

Scrub Island offers 3 main white-sand beaches.
Donovan's Reef, a casual restaurant and bar located near the landing area, will serve as the resort's main dining option.  It has been opne since the mid 1990's. The Jumping Monkey located on North Beach will offer drinks and snacks.

The resort's $2 million spa will have ocean view cabanas. A marina shopping village, wine cellar, fitness center, cigar bar and room service are also planned.

The maximum population of Scrub Island is not supposed to exceed more than 200 residents or guests at any given time, after full development.
