Mountainous Jost Van Dyke, just a few minutes boat ride from Tortola, is known for its outstanding white sand beaches and beach bars.

A four-square mile island to the north of Tortola 's West End, Jost Van Dyke was the supposed hideaway of a Dutch pirate of the same name.

Still largely undeveloped, Main Street is only a sandy pathway flanked with small cafes that specialize in freshly baked banana bread and coconut muffins.

The island's modest hotel accommodations cater mostly to the yachting crowd.

Foxy's, one of the most famous bars in the British Virgin Islands, is located on Main Street.
