A day sail from Tortola to Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda's The Baths, Norman Island are popular every day of the week. So are day sail snorkel trips, a better way for snorkelers to travel than joining a dive boat.

The windiest season normally is from Christmas through March.

Charters stationed at West End are closest to Jost Van Dyke. Trips to Virgin Gorda usually depart from Road Town.

Patouche II, 284/ 494.6300. www.patouche.com. Full day (9-4) snorkel includes three sites, gourmet lunch and all beverages, $98 per person. Full days are typically on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Half-day sails with two stops are $68 per person. A 10% discount for advance reservations. Departs from Road Town .

White Squall II, 284/494-2564, www.whitesquall2.com. Sails to The Baths on Virgin Gorda, stopping on the way either at Cooper Island or Norman Island and The Caves for snorkeling and tours. Trips last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and depart Road Town.
