Time: 30 minutes, one way. Difficulty: 2, steady but not especially difficult climbing all the way to the top.

Trailhead: This triangular-shaped mountain with the rounded top is just to the left of the ferry dock, the most prominent feature on the horizon.

The marked trail up Cow Hill begins at the parking lot of the Little Dix Bay Resort. This is usually an open, hot hike, so it's best done early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

In the dry season, the cactus scrub and dry woodland on the hillside can look almost dead. These drought-resistant plants are alive, though they will sometimes lose their leaves and become dormant during dry spells.

On a clear day, the summit offers a spectacular view of nearby islands.
