Location: On the south coast road to Sint Nicolaas, about 3 miles east of Oranjestad.

A desalinization plant is at the mouth of this old pirate hangout. Go to the other end for some of the best birdwatching on Aruba: egrets, herons, frigates, and brown pelicans.

This is where large green and yellow parakeets--about twice the size of those usually seen in the in pet stores--nest in the steep cliffs along the roadway. Sunset is the best time to see them.

All three types of mangroves--red, black and buttonwood--are represented. Repellent may be required when you're out of the wind.
